| Community - Distinguished Student Program |
At the beginning of each school year and continuing weekly throughout the year, United Dairymen of Idaho and the CBS Television affiliates in Boise, Twin Falls, Idaho Falls/Pocatello and Lewiston/Moscow market areas present the Distinguished Student Award - a program designed to recognize excellence in academics, citizenship and the role of education in Idaho. Each week, stations gather student nominees from area high school principals and counselors, looking for candidates that have displayed outstanding qualities. The nominees are reviewed by the station's selection committee and a winner will be chosen each Friday. The selected student will appear in a sixty second feature story at 8:58pm on Wednesday evenings in the station's primetime programming and again the following evening in the late news broadcast. The sixty second feature story will highlight the awarded students academic and extra curricular achievements. Where available, the weekly winner's name and profile will be posted on the station's web site. A plaque highlighting the student, achievements and school, will be delivered weekly to each awarded student's school, along with a $100.00 check that the school may use for academic needs. Every nominee will receive a certificate from United Dairymen of Idaho and the station recognizing the student. At the end of each school year, one student from each of the four market areas will be selected based on overall achievement and a $5,000.00 award will be presented to the winner's school that the school may use for academic needs. This is a statewide effort, with TV station partners committed to providing promotion, time and talents to make the Distinguished Student Awards a success.
